In November 1984, John Denver played eleven concerts on tour in Russia. During that time, Jim Henson was in the country filming The World of Puppetry with Sergei Obraztsov.
Donna Hartman, wife of the American Ambassador to Russia, produced a performance by Denver at the American Embassy, during which Kermit the Frog appeared. Kermit and Denver sang "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain" and "Rainbow Connection," and were presented official t-shirts of the American Marines in Moscow.
