Judith Leyster (1609-1660) was a Dutch painter of petit genre, portraits, and still lifes. Until 1893, her entire body of work was attributed to two men: Frans Hals and her husband, Jan Miense Molenaer. Many of her works are signed with a unique monogram consisting of her initials followed by an asterisk: JL*
