Kermit, Save the Swamp! tells the story of a trip that Kermit the Frog takes with Fozzie Bear to his native swamp. Upon his arrival, however, Kermit discovers that his childhood home is about to be turned into a shopping mall and amusement park called Swamp World.
Much to Kermit's chagrin, the swamp's inhabitants are looking forward to Swamp World -- Fergus the beaver looks forward to free rides on the water slide, Lulu the mockingbird, can't wait to buy birdseed at the supermarket, and Kermit's cousin Nemo is learning how to roller skate in anticipation of the new sidewalks. (One can't, after all, roller skate in mud.)
In fact, contrary to the book's title and cover illustration, no one except Kermit seems to think the swamp needs saving. In a last ditch effort, Kermit throws a "Good-Bye Swamp" party, at which he points out exactly what his friends will lose when the swamp is drained. It apparently never struck Fergus, Lulu, Nemo, and their friends that they would not be able to swim in the sidewalks.
In the end, the residents of the swamp band together and agree not to sell their land to the developers.
