Elton John's Muppet Show-based outfit in Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Kingsman: The Secret Service is a 2014 action comedy based on a comic book series by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. It focuses on an elite British spy agency, using a tailor shop as a front and Arthurian code names, and its young new recruit Eggsy. A sequel followed in 2017, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while a prequel, The King's Man, was released in 2021.
Muppet Mentions[]
- Eggsy argues with his stepfather and, referring to his gang, says "Tell your Muppets to go inside." The phrasing and context, addressed to the man who manipulates the others, suggests a likely reference rather than the British slang.
- In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Elton John has a large cameo role, having been kidnapped by the villain as captive entertainer. His costume is based on the one he wore when performing "Crocodile Rock" on The Muppet Show. In a DVD behind the scenes feature, director/writer Matthew Vaughn talks about how that episode was the first time he saw Elton John.
