La Abuela (literally "The Grandmother") is the kindly matriarch of Plaza Sésamo. A retired teacher, Abuela now runs the neighborhood cafe, Lonchería de Plaza. She shares her experience, wisdom, and maturity with the other residents. Though she has no relatives in the vicinity, she consideres the entire Plaza, human and Muppet alike, to be her family.
