The production of La Grouchiata

La Traviata is a three-act opera with music by Giuseppe Verdi, first performed in 1853. The opera was adapted to film in 1967, and again in 1983 (with the latter featuring Plácido Domingo).

  • Episode 409 of The Muppet Show features the opera "Pigaletto," which uses music from La Traviata. Earlier in the episode, an otter complains to Kermit the Frog that they should instead be performing the opera "La Traviotter."
  • Episode 2875 of Sesame Street centers around an opera called "La Grouchiata." The production not only lampoons the name of Traviata, but also uses some musical snatches from the show as well, including "Libiamo ne' lieti calici."
