Lady and the Tramp is a 1955 Walt Disney animated feature film about the exploits of a refined Cocker Spaniel named Lady, and a stray mutt called Tramp. The first animated film to be filmed in CinemaScope widescreen, the film was based on a short story that Walt read in Cosmopolitan in 1943, and refined and expanded by the author and other Disney story men. A financial success at the box, although not a critical one, the film has since gone on to be named to the American Film Institute's list of the "100 Greatest Love Stories of All Time." The film spawned a direct-to-video sequel and a live-action remake for Disney+.

  • Peggy Lee's recording of "He's a Tramp" from the film (backed by Thurl Ravenscroft and other members of The Mellomen quartet) was transcribed for use on Sam and Friends in 1955.[1] From the same movie, the Mellomen's version of "Home Sweet Home" (again howling in character as the pound dogs) was used on the show on February 12, 1960.[2]
  • The character Tramp is a spoof of the character of the same name from Disney's animated feature. The Muppet Tramp was first used in the Jim Henson Hour episode Dog City, where he shares a pasta dinner with a Cocker Spaniel.
  • During an animated segment of the Elmo's World episode "Mail," an announcer advises viewers to stay tuned for "Lady and the Stamp."
