The Library of Congress was founded in 1880 in Washington, D.C. and serves as the national library for the United States of America.
A number of preservation organizations fall under the purview of the Library of Congress, including the National Film and Recording Registries, and the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, which received the entire run of Sesame Street in 2019. The Muppet Movie was added to the National Film Registry in 2009. The National Recording Registry contains the Sesame Street album Platinum All-Time Favorites and a recording of "Rainbow Connection."
