Lily is a character who debuted in the 2011 Sesame Street special, Growing Hope Against Hunger. She is described in materials as "food insecure."
On December 8, 2011, she appeared before the National Press Club, in a Sesame Workshop presentation about their "Food for Thought" campaign.
In December 2018, the character was reintroduced in a series of online videos as part of Sesame Street in Communities' initiative on homelessness. It is revealed in this series that Lily's family has lost their apartment home and have had to stay with friends. Press outlets reported Lily to be the first Sesame Street character to be homeless.
