LittleChrissyandtheAlphabeats

Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats is a Sesame Street band that first appeared in 1973. The leader was Little Chrissy, backed up by Green and Lavender Anything Muppets known as the Alphabeats.

The performers for the group included Christopher Cerf as Little Chrissy (who was named after his performer), Jeff Moss as the Lavender Alphabeat, and Richard Hunt as the Green Alphabeat (except for "Count It Higher", where he was performed by Joe Raposo).

In the group's first appearance, "Count it Higher" the Alphabeats had a wilder look, with wider eyes and messier hair. The color of their hair was also different, with the Green one sporting spiky black hair and the Lavender one sporting a blond ’do. In this appearance, there were also three Alphabeats, the third being a Hot Pink Anything Muppet with orange hair who wore a blue-and-white striped shirt, and was performed by Jerry Nelson. This was his only gig with the band.

Big Jeffy also appeared with the band on a number of occasions, including in the numbers "Gonna Rock You to Sleep", "I Go to School". The group with Big Jeffy also appeared in a 1990 episode from Season 21 to sing "Startin' Kindergarten", a song dedicated to Miles, Caroline, and Travis' start of kindergarten. In all these appearances, Big Jeffy replaces the lavender Alphabeat.

In addition to performing their own numbers, Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats have occasionally provided back-up music for Don Music in "Sesame Street News Flash" segments (for most of these sketches, the Lavender Alphabeat was performed by Richard Hunt, and the Green Alphabeat was performed by Jerry Nelson). For "Yellowstone Park", the Alphabeats have their regular performers.

Notes

  • The group's song, "Count It Higher", is considered to be Count von Count's favorite song.
