Lizzo

Melissa Viviane Jefferson (b. 1988) is a performing artist known by her stage name, Lizzo. A vocalist and flautist, she released her first album in 2013 and has toured with Haim and Florence and the Machine.

For Halloween in 2022, Lizzo dressed as Miss Piggy, sharing several photos and videos on her social media accounts. Her first post was a video of the photoshoot set to a Miss Piggy version of Cardi B's "WAP" punctuated with a "hi-ya!" karate chop. [1]

Her second post read, "A tribute to my forever icon, MISS PIGGY. The epitome of grace, style, confidence and a warrior for love. @MissPiggy i love you 🐽💋" and featured a photo of herself modeled off of a 2005 photo of Piggy by Mike Ruiz from Zink Magazine titled "Miss Piggy and the Serpent" (itself a parody of a 1981 photo of Nastassja Kinski by Richard Avedon). A third post featured three photos of herself captioned "Notorious P.I.G" [3] followed by a video in which she does an impression of Piggy [4] and another where she's joined by companions dressed as Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear. [5]

On Twitter, @MissPiggy responded, "Happy Halloween, Lizzo! Love vous, Grrrl!" [6]

At her subsequent concert on Halloween night at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, Lizzo performed in her Miss Piggy costume while her backup dancers all dressed as Kermit. [7]

In February 2023 she appeared in a video with Elmo and Cookie Monster playing "Sesame Street's famous cookie flute." [8] She also recorded a video with Elmo giving him a gift of balsamic vinegar. [9]

Elmo and Abby Cadabby later attended one of Lizzo's concerts in Knoxville, Tennessee in April 2023. [10]
