Luke Eveshim is the 9 year-old protagonist in The Witches. Recently orphaned, Luke lives with his grandmother, and accompanies her to the Hotel Excelsior following a diabetic attack. There, Luke stumbles upon the Grand High Witch and an entire conclave of witches, posing as members of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Luke, like his friend Bruno Jenkins, is transformed into a mouse. They subsequently work to defeat the Grand High Witch and prevent other children from falling victim to the same fate.
