An illustrated Luxan in Farscape Roleplaying Game
Luxans are a race of warrioristic aliens on Farscape. The most prominently seen on the show is General Ka D'Argo. Others include Nilaam, Kor Tosko, Learko, and D'Argo's half-Luxan, half-Sebacean son, Ka Jothee.
Culture[]
Luxans are known for their military prowess. Tattoos on their chin signify their military rank. One such rank is "kleeva," a field officer, which Jothee obtains by the time of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. One of their traditional weapons is the Qualta blade, a cross between a sword and gun.
A proud race, they value loyalty, honor, and family. Marriage is initiated with union tattoos, which are burned into the skin of both partners ("Suns and Lovers").
Oricans are Luxan priests. They wield great mystic power, such as the ability to read minds, rejuvenate themselves, and, per the Farscape Roleplaying Game, the ability to "freeze their enemies in place" and "move a ship in orbit." The game additionally expands upon Luxan religious beliefs and superstitions. Unafraid of death, Luxans believe the spirits will guide them into the next world, Tchatska, where they will be reunited with friends and "honorable foes." There, they dine together and celebrate until they "return to the land of the living." Those who can't find Tchatska, often dishonorable Luxans, become aggressive spirits called kho'tchat.
Also from the Farscape Roleplaying Game, Luxan cities are very fortress-like, fortified with high walls and weapons lining the borders. They have no police, with citizens keeping the peace themselves.
They are distant cousins and blood allies of Ilanics. Conversely, they are blood enemies with the Scorvians.
Luxans have domesticated such species as Brindz Hounds, Ba'Kar, and Tisan.
Territories[]
The Luxan homeworld is also called Luxan ("Exodus from Genesis"). The Farscape Roleplaying Game says it "consists of jungles, deserts, mountains, and a wide variety of other environments." It has extreme ecosystems and many dangerous predators.
They have a number of planets under their control, collectively called the Luxan Territories. Due to the wealth of the Territories, they are coveted by the Scarrans. The Peacekeepers and Luxans have a mutual defense pact to protect each other in the event of a Scarran invasion, however, PK Commandant Grayza offers Scarran War Minister Ahkna to cede the Luxan worlds in exchange for peace in "Bringing Home the Beacon."
According to the Farscape Roleplaying Game, every Luxan planet answers to the Shan'ska, a council of five Luxans who rule for life and choose their successors; corruption among members is deterred by the threat of execution.
Physiology[]
Tenkas are a distinctive feature of Luxans. They are highly sensitive tentacle-like appendages that hang from the back of the head, equally receptive to pain and pleasure. The Farscape Roleplaying Game explains tenkas are residual from when pre-sapient Luxans used them as sensory organs. Other distinguishing features of Luxans include their ridged eyebrows and plate-covered noses. They additionally have a long, prehensile tongue tipped with venom that stuns victims. They have a strong sense of smell, and they can survive the vacuum of space for approximately fifteen minutes ("Family Ties"). Luxans are sexually dimorphic.
Bleeding can be dangerous for Luxans. When Luxans are injured, their blood is near-black. If blood flow is not stimulated until it runs clear, the blood turns toxic and they can die of blood shock ("Till the Blood Runs Clear").
Luxans are prone to periods of extreme anger, called hyper-rage. These periods are often marked by lethal violence, and Luxans have no memory of anything they did. Adults have typically more control over their hyper-rage, and as such, it is more common in adolescents.
