Lyle is a Muppet sock who, with his mate Argyle McSock, works in the stockroom of the shop on Big Bag. When they're not hanging out in the store's sock bin, they can be found in a laundry hamper or just chatting with the other main characters.
Lyle loves to tell knock-knock jokes to Argyle, replacing "knock-knock" with "sock-sock!" He is suggested to be from New York, due to his Brooklyn accent.
Originally, the socks were primarily seen in interstitial segments, but in the second season, they became more involved in the framing stories with the main cast. Jeff Conover took over performing Lyle so the socks could interact with Chelli (another Joey Mazzarino character),[1] though Mazzarino was still credited for the role in the season 2 presskit.
The puppet for Lyle was previously used on Sesame Street in Episode 3409.
