"Macarena" is a 1993 song by Los del Río, made famous for its accompanying dance. The 1995 Bayside Boys Remix (with English lyrics) hit #1 on the Billboard "Hot 100".
A cover of the song was featured on the 1997 Sesame Street album Hot! Hot! Hot! Dance Songs, sung by Rosita, Benny Rabbit, Big Bird, The Count, Elmo, Hoots the Owl, Oscar the Grouch, Zoe, Wolfgang the Seal and Prairie Dawn.
The song was performed by Miss Piggy and Manolo and Carlo Flamingo in Muppets Most Wanted.

- In Muppets Tonight episode 205, Ernst Stavros Grouper plays a song called, "Macadamia," for his new segment, "Muppet Dance Party." When Coolio said that it should be called "Macarena," Ernst replies he couldn't get the rights for that music.
- The Sesame Street home video Big Bird Gets Lost parodies the song as "555-1234 (That's My Number)." Referencing its popularity, Big Bird asks if they're starting a new dance craze, to which Maria replies "These line dances never catch on."
- In Sesame Street Episode 3670, Stanley (the spider from "Little Miss Muffet") is seen on vacation and claims to be taking a Macarena lesson later in the day.
- The song was spoofed on Sesame Street Episode 3827 as "Monsterena."
- In Episode 4075 of Sesame Street, Royal Subject Gabi shows off a dance that makes her happy to cheer up King Cookie. He claims it's no Macarena.
