Mad Max is a 1979 action film directed by George Miller and starring Mel Gibson as the titular character. It has since spawned several sequels and spin-offs.

- Gonzo and Camilla come back from the movie theater in the September 21, 1985, edition of The Muppets comic strip after watching Irritated Irving, noting the seats for Mad Max were too expensive.
- In the first season Farscape episode "Thank God It's Friday. Again.," upon arriving on the planet Sykar, John Crichton compares it to the third film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, telling Rygel, "Oh, yeah, I think I've seen this one. Mel Gibson, Tina Turner. Cage Match." When Rygel is confused, Crichton tells him, "No, don't worry. Nobody saw the third one anyway."
- In The Muppets Mayhem episode "Exile on Main Street," Nora tells Moog a story of when she met a woman (who she thought was Tina Turner) and sang "the whole Thunderdome song" to her. For the rest of the episode, Moog gives her the nickname "Thunderdome."
