Make Way for Ducklings is a 1941 children's book written and illustrated by Robert McCloskey. The book tells the story of Mrs. Mallard and her eight ducklings as they walk through Boston to reach the Public Garden. A friendly policeman stops traffic for them and arranges with the police department to ensure the feathered family can cross safely.
Remaining in print as a best selling perennial, the book was commemorated in 1987 with statues of the duck family in the actual Boston Public Garden. The 2019 parents' guide book Sesame Street: Ready for School! (co-written by Rosemarie T. Truglio) includes Make Way for Ducklings in a list of books to read three year-olds.
