Makers Joan Ganz Cooney

Makers: Women Who Make America is a documentary series distributed by PBS about revolutionary women and the struggle for gender parity. First broadcast in 2013, entries in the series have been narrated by Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Julia Roberts, Alfre Woodard, Julianna Margulies, Leslie Mann, and others. Episodes focus on individuals and themes, and have featured interviews with Hillary Clinton, Marlo Thomas, Gloria Steinem, Ellen DeGeneres, Carol Burnett, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Lily Tomlin, Jane Lynch, Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin, Jane Fonda, Glenn Close, Zoe Saldana, Mae Jemison, and Martha Stewart, among others.

Following the success of the series, the Makers website continued to feature women interviewed on camera about their experiences working in their respective fields. In July of 2014, Joan Ganz Cooney appeared in approximately 20 minutes worth of video discussing the creation of Sesame Street and some of the hurdles she faced during the 1960s and on.
