Malcolm X (1925-1965) was a leader of the civil rights movement in the United States of America, as well as an outspoken proponent of Islam. His more radical approach to racial problems contrasted with that of Martin Luther King Jr.
Malcom X was assassinated in 1965, with activist and actor Ossie Davis delivering his funeral eulogy. His influence continued past his death, and by the 1980s and 1990s, he had reached iconic status. His life was depicted in the 1992 biopic Malcolm X, directed and co-written by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington.
