"Mama Don't Allow" is a popular standard with several lyrical variations centered around parental defiance. Its origins are unclear, but several sources cite Cow Cow Davenport as the composer.[1]
The song was first performed by the Muppets on The Dick Cavett Show in 1973 when members of the Country Trio responded to various instruments that mama wouldn't allow to be played.
On The Muppet Show, it was performed by Dudley Moore on piano with accompaniment from M.A.M.M.A. in episode 407.
A variation by the Sesame Street cast called "Oscar Don't Allow" was performed on the album, Bert & Ernie Sing-Along.
