Doctored prop photo of Chairman Mao with Kermit and Henry Kissinger, for use in The Muppets (2011)

The final resting place of Chairman Mao Zedong, as seen in Big Bird in China.

Mao Zedong (1893-1976), also romanized as Mao Tse-tung, was the founder of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Chairman of the Communist Party in that country.

Chairman Mao, as he was commonly known, took power in 1949. Mao's split from the Soviet Union in the 1950s later led to diplomatic overtures from Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger in the 1970s.

  • Big Bird, during his own visit to China in Big Bird in China, pointed out Mao's tomb, the mausoleum which serves as the Chairman's final resting place and is open for public viewing. He drives by the site and points out to Barkley, "That's Mao's Tomb!... I think."
