Margaret Keane (1927-2022) was a painter whose trademark was her depictions of characters, usually children, with unnaturally large eyes. Flowers periodically crop up in some of the pieces. While the paintings became a commercial success, they were poorly received critically. Keane's then-husband Walter Keane took credit for the paintings, and Margaret Keane eventually sued in 1986. At the trial, the judge ordered both parties to create a painting in the Keane style; Margaret Keane succeeded and the question of authorship was settled.
The 2014 Tim Burton film Big Eyes dramatized the situation, with Amy Adams portraying Margaret Keane.
