Martin Scorsese (b. 1942) is an American film director; one of Hollywood's "movie brats" of the 1970s along with George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, and Brian De Palma.
Among his many films include Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Last Temptation of Christ, Cape Fear, and many others. He also directed episodes of Amazing Stories and Boardwalk Empire, as well as the music video for Michael Jackson's "Bad," and commercials for American Express (scored by Philip Glass) and Squarespace. As a celebrity figure, he has made cameos in Curb Your Enthusiasm and 30 Rock, and played Vincent van Gogh in Akira Kurosawa's 1990 film Dreams.
In November 2001, Scorsese attended an event at Madison Square Garden Theatre with his wife and child to celebrate the launch of sesamestreet.com and AOL's "Music Works" initiative where he posed for photos with walk-around versions of Ernie and Bert.
His father is Charles Scorsese, who appeared in several of his son's films, as well as a cameo in The Muppets Take Manhattan.
