Martin Strudler (1929-2020), often credited as Marty Strudler, was a longtime animation artist. He worked on the design end, usually backgrounds or layouts, and was background designer for the entire run of Muppet Babies (as well as Little Muppet Monsters).
Strudler's early career included work at Terrytoons on the TV series Hector Heathcote (designing characters initially, then backgrounds and layouts), the Ralph Bakshi series Mighty Heroes, and the Bond-spoofing James Hound theatrical shorts. He went to DePatie-Freleng afterwards as one of their main layout and sometimes graphic design artists, working on Roland and Rattfink shorts, the series Here Comes the Grump and others, later Pink Panther shorts and related projects, and three Looney Tunes specials. Overlapping with his lengthy DPF stint, he designed characters for the Sid and Marty Krofft costumed series Lidsville and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, worked with Bakshi again on the feature film Wizards, and Bakshi collaborator Robert Taylor on The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (with the voice of Skip Hinnant) and the Hanna-Barbera features Heidi's Song and Rock Odyssey.
When DPF became Marvel Productions, Strudler stayed on, designing backgrounds and/or layouts for Dungeons & Dragons (storyboarding as well), My Little Pony, and the Blondie & Dagwood specials. By the 1990s, he was working for Warner Bros. Animation on Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, and Freakazoid!
