Masterpiece Theatre is a long-running PBS anthology series, originally hosted by Alistair Cooke.

- Ernie and Bert appeared in a 1975 promo for the series which consisted of several PBS personalities and celebrities (including Harry Belafonte) watching Masterpiece Theatre.[1]

- Beginning in 1978, the series was regularly spoofed on Sesame Street as "Monsterpiece Theater," hosted by Cookie Monster as Alistair Cookie. Though most of the sketches ranged from classic literature to popular films and plays or even television shows, some of the earliest sketches spoofed actual Masterpiece Theatre series, such as Upstairs, Downstairs and I, Claudius.
