Maurice is the hapless casanova who appears in the televised version of the Sesame Street song "I Want to Hold Your Ear."
In the segment, he puts facial features onto a Pumpkin Anything Muppet woman to complete the image of his dream love. However, the woman emphatically denies his love and is about to walk away. Maurice tries to woo her back by singing and removes every part he names in his song, placing them nearby on a tablecloth. The woman, back to a blank face, remains unmoved and leaves. Maurice's heartbreak doesn't last long when the tablecloth, with the facial features he set aside earlier, comes to life and develops a crush on him, much to his shock.
