Max the Magnificent is the self-proclaimed "magnificent" kid monster who appears in Episode 1971 of Sesame Street.
Max writes his name in chalk on walls and doors all over Sesame Street, which is the source of frustration for Luis, David, and Maria. They're too upset and concentrated on erasing his writing to define the word "magnificent" for Big Bird, who makes his way down the street to find that the door to his nest has been vandalized as well. Big Bird confronts Max and asks him how he'd like it if "Big Bird the Beautiful" was written on his walls and doors, which helps him see the error of his ways. However, Max hesitates to apologize to the adults when he hears them make threatening remarks. He decides to write an apology letter and slinks behind as Big Bird delivers it. Then, he formally introduces himself to the adults.
In his first reveal scene, Max is seen with maliciously-angled eyes, which are repositioned to evoke a friendlier expression in later scenes.
The monster appeared again with the name Max in a street scene for Episode 2584, performed by David Rudman, as an old friend of Sacha (Tracey Ullman). The puppet is a stock AM monster and has frequently been seen as part of an ensemble of background Muppets. The puppet has been altered with different eyes and noses in later appearances. He has also been recycled as Rico, Ex Ray, the Cereal Girl, and one of the MNN Logo Monsters.
