Melissa Etheridge (b. 1961) is a rock musician who has recorded over a dozen studio albums since the late 1980s. She has won two Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Al Gore's environmentalist documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and has a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 1996, she appeared in Sesame Street’s 28th season to perform a parody of her hit song "Like the Way I Do". A letter U joins her to sing "Like the Way U Does".
