Metal Gear is a video game series developed by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. Introduced in 1987, the games have branched into other media including novels and audio dramas. As a legacy franchise, tropes from the game have found their way into other media, such as the exclamation mark that appears above enemies whenever they spot the main character, as referenced in Wreck-It Ralph.

References[]

  • Animal calls out creator Kojima during a 2022 appearance on The Game Awards in response to having his own video game. After the camera cuts to Kojima in the audience, host Geoff Keighley admits he's not sure the game developer would be into the idea. Animal retorts, "Animal can hide in box," in reference to the tendency of main characters Solid Snake and Big Boss to cover themselves and move around in cardboard boxes.
