Michael McCarthy

Michael Clayton McCarthy is a writer and actor who contributed to Sesame Street as an uncredited writer between 1985 and 1987.

Among McCarthy's other television writing credits include Saturday Night Live (1983-84 season), The Drew Carey Show, and as a program consultant to Whose Line Is It Anyway? Acting credits include episodes of The Nanny, Coach, Freaks and Geeks, Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jimmy Kimmel Live, According to Jim, and Mike & Molly.

McCarthy is an alumnus of the storied improvisational comedy theater The Second City's Chicago branch, where he also initiated its ongoing comedy writing program. He also created a similar writing program at the now-defunct iO (ImprovOlympic) West Theater in Hollywood.
