Michaelangelo is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as seen in the 1990 Jim Henson's Creature Shop film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Named after Renaissance painter Michelangelo, the turtle is the party animal of the group, whose trademarks are his orange face mask and nunchucks. He also appears to be the most obsessed with pizza.
When Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird first created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1984, they misspelled the name "Michelangelo" as "Michaelangelo," a mistake that stuck with the character until the re-launch of the TMNT comic book in 2001, when Peter Laird decided to use the opportunity to "correct" the spelling. Since then, the character's name has been spelled "Michelangelo."
