Michelangelo (1475–1564) was a sculptor, painter, architect and poet, who, along with Leonardo da Vinci, is considered one of the most important artists from the Italian Renaissance period.
Of his many famous works, "The Creation of Adam," which adorns the ceiling of Vatican City's Sistine Chapel, has been frequently featured in popular culture perhaps because of Michelangelo's depiction of the Christian God, itself modeled after the image of Zeus.
