Miss Cone is a spoken-word routine, set over a jazz tune, by Ken Nordine and The Fred Katz Group. The piece details a man's romance with the titular "Miss Cone," using geometric shapes to describe the lovers.
Jim Henson used the recording for an episode of Sam and Friends, broadcast on December 9, 1960. Uniquely, the routine was not lip-synced by the puppet cast. Henson instead created an animated short around the recording using cut-out shapes.
The film piece was then shown on Today on January 19, 1961, the Muppets' first of many regular appearances on the program during the time. The segment was screened over fifty years later, touted as a "long-lost episode," at the "Celebrating Jim Henson’s Birthday with 'Sam and Friends'" event at the Museum of the Moving Image on September 24, 2022.
