Monty appeared on Sesame Street from Season 23 until Season 27.
Believing that pineapples have dentists and cabbages have feelings, this British chap (hailing from London) gets his name and his silly sense of logic from Monty Python's Flying Circus. He often had a particularly tense relationship with the logic-minded Prairie Dawn, who would call out Monty's odd behavior in comparison to her more reasonable understanding. He served as an occasional TV correspondent for the Ridiculous News Network and shows like Inside Sesame Street. He once described becoming a Birdketeer as being the happiest day of his life.
Monty also appeared in the home video productions Elmocize and Sing Yourself Sillier at the Movies.
Notes[]
- The original Monty puppet's head was designed over that of the Guy Smiley puppet, as evident in that both characters had movable eyebrow mechanisms. For season 26 and onward, a standard Anything Muppet head was switched out and he was given a tongue.
