Mr. Macintosh was the itinerant fruit peddler on Sesame Street. Played by Chet O'Brien, the character appeared periodically between 1975 and 1992, to some extent linking the street to the world outside. Mr. Macintosh would occasionally take the opportunity to do a little soft shoe while on his route.
Chet O'Brien was also the Studio Manager for Sesame Street for many years. He was once married to Marylin Miller who was one of the Ziegfeld girls in the early days of theater. His brother"Snooks" (nickname) was the Floor (Stage) Manager for Sesame Street during the same time Chet was there. They both worked together in vaudeville as a dance act.
