Synopsis[]
During delayed spring cleaning at Baker Street, Holmes receives a new client, prawn shop proprietor Jabez Wilson. Wilson has taken a second job at the Red-Headed League, which employs people with red hair. Jabez is suspicious, since the job comes with no actual duties. With the help of Miss Hudson (who Lestrade recognizes as Irene Adler), the three investigators assume red-hued hairstyles to infilitrate the League.
The three are hired by the red-haired Duncan Ross and then find themselves caught up in mundane office activities, but no actual labor. The company also does direct deposit to a bank, and Sherlock stumbles on blueprints to the vault. Later, meeting with Jabez at his shop, they run into Ross and Wilson's "lovable and trustworthy assistant" Spaulding. Also present is Dr. Grimesby Roylott, released from prison because he ratted on someone.
Back at the office, Holmes' efforts to find what the company actually does continue to fail, and the great detective succombs to office malaise. The trio finally go to the bank. Holmes breaks out of his funk and has a tile dug up, revealing Ross and Spaulding as attempted bank robbers.
