"Copy-and-pasting text from a website into Muppet Wiki is a bad idea, even if you change some words here and there."
- But it's okay if it's something you wrote anyway, right? Like what I'm doing with the Bear in the Big Blue House material? Agent0042 17:59, 17 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- You mean if it's your stuff, from TV.com? Yeah, if you wrote it, that should be fine. -- Danny Toughpigs 21:28, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
"Long quotes are okay. If there's a passage in a book or on a website that provides useful information about the subject of an article, go ahead and quote the whole passage. Put quotation marks around it, and provide a link to the source."
- How long is too long? I mean you can't just copy an entire book (or a big enough chunk of it) and than just list the source, can you? When do you cross the line from quoting to stealing? I wouldn't want to infringe on any copyrights or detract from book sales or anything. What's the rule of thumb or guideline here? -- BradFraggle 03:59, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- It's hard to say; that might be one of those "you know it when you see it" situations. For now, go ahead and post stuff. If it's too much, then you (or somebody else) can always paraphrase it or cut it down. -- Danny Toughpigs 04:19, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
