Muppetville (concept)

Muppetville was a concept for a Muppet-themed amusement park first explored by Jim Henson around 1987. Artwork was commissioned and created by Kurt Hanks before the idea was eventually abandoned.

Henson abandoned the idea, conceding that "Disney does it so well that we could never do it better."

After entering into negotiations with the Walt Disney Company in 1989, Henson shifted his theme park aspirations into developing attractions for an entire Muppet-themed area within Disney's Disney-MGM Studios theme park and planning a Muppet-themed take over of Disneyland in California (including production of Muppet*Vision 3D, the Here Come the Muppets and Days of Swine and Roses stage shows, and integration into Hollywood's Pretty Woman; along with development of the ultimately unrealized Here Come the Muppets and Muppet All-Star Motorcade parades, The Great Muppet Movie Ride, and The Great Gonzo's Pandemonium Pizza Parlor).
