"My Favorite Things," from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music, is a song about overcoming one's fears and is similar in theme to another of the composers' songs, "I Whistle a Happy Tune." In the stage musical, "My Favorite Things" is sung by the Mother Superior to Maria as she leaves the abbey for good, but the song is most associated with Julie Andrews, who sang it as Maria to the von Trapp children in the film version. The song has been performed and referenced by the Muppets on several occasions.

The Muppet Show[]

  • performed by Gonzo on episode 512. Gonzo sings a verse of "My Favorite Things" when Kermit expresses his frustrations with skiers on crutches and chickens on springs. The line is meant to echo the song's lyrics, which include "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens" and "wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings."
  • performed by Sweetums in The Muppet Show Comic Book Comic-Con Preview Book. The Rodent Doo-Wop All-Stars quit the show when Sweetums forces them out of the opening number so he can perform a parody of "My Favorite Things" that highlights less obviously delightful things like "lumps of old cabbage and boogers with hair in." Before he can complete the song's signature line, however, he is yanked off the stage. When later confronted about why he wanted to sing so badly, Sweetums confesses that he was just trying to impress his mommy in the audience.

Muppets Tonight[]

  • In Episode 2265, Telly Monster lists many things that aren't Grouches, including "snowflakes that fall on my nose and eyelashes," "whiskers on kittens," and "brown paper packages."
  • In Episode 3824, Rosita suggests "These Are a Few of My Favorite Dings" as a song to play during the Ding-a-Long.
