nachtmagazin is the nightly news broadcast of the daily news magazine tagesschau and its in-depth magazine tagesthemen. All three shows are produced in Hamburg and share a studio and are broadcast over the ARD network of regional broadcasters (including NDR).
On November 11, 2009, after the show reported on Sesame Street's 40th anniversary, with focus on Sesame Street Day in New York City, Ernie made a surprise appearance in the studio.
While talking to host Ingo Zamperoni (an avowed Sesamstrasse fan since age four), he confused the show with another, excused Bert (who was busy sorting his paper clip collection), accepted chocolate cake on behalf of the show, sang a short rendition of "Quietsche-Entchen" to his best pal, and announced the weather.
