Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas onstage at the New Victory
The New Victory Theater is an off-Broadway venue that operated under many names and purposes since its construction in 1900. In 1995, the theater re-opened (under the management of the New 42nd Street organization) as a dedicated space for children's and family performances.
Big Bird, Sweetums, and the Bossmen were among those present for the opening gala event on December 11, 1995,[1][2][3] with Sweetums sweeping up the empty stage.
The following season, in November 1996, Big Bird and other Sesame Street cast members appeared live to premiere the Sesame Street Film Festival compilation, which enjoyed a week-long run at the theater.[4]
In 2011, Cheryl Henson was honored at the theater during the New 42nd Street Gala. The event featured appearances by Big Bird and Telly Monster.
The stage show of Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas had a truncated run at the theater in 2021.
