The Newport Folk Festival is a folk-oriented music festival held annually at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. Since its founding in 1959, the festival has been the site of musical performances by such established artists as Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash, and notably provided the first national exposure of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Later in 2014, after Seeger's passing, a concert program titled "For Pete's Sake" was launched in his honor.

Kermit the Frog made a surprise appearance at the festival on July 28, 2019. He opened that Sunday's "For Pete's Sake" program with a performance of "Rainbow Connection," joined by My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. Peter Linz assisted Matt Vogel for this performance.
