The Newsman from the Muppet News Flash sketches was released in the fifth series of Palisades Toys' line of Jim Henson's Muppets action figures. This figure is the first Newsman toy that has been produced.
The Newsman's glasses are removable to make him look like the Season 1 puppet.
The backdrop featured four screens to put stickers on. Fans could choose between eight stickers: a satellite map, Reporter Kermit on Koozbane, Reporter Kermit in a storm, Beaker as a weatherman, Gonzo: Alien or Weirdo, Cookin' Swedish Chef Style, First Pigs in Space, and Bad Comedy: Is Fozzie Bear to Blame? With the exception of the satellite map, each sticker featured the action figure representations of the Muppet characters and locations, rather than video stills from the television program.
The desk would later be recycled for the Pops Action Figure.
