Nile Rodgers (b. 1952) is a songwriter, musician, composer and record producer. He was the co-founder and lead guitarist for the group Chic, which recorded such influential disco hits as "Le Freak" and "Good Times." With Chic bassist Bernard Edwards, Rodgers co-wrote and produced the songs "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family" for Sister Sledge in 1979.

Rodgers has stated that his first professional music job was a stint as a guitarist for the Sesame Street touring band.[1][2][3] Rodgers later recalled in a Tweet, honoring the show's 50th anniversary:

This is where my pro music career started. Happy 50th to ⁦@sesamestreet. The best 1st pro starting job in the world. These people had the biggest hearts and best values for a young musician to be around. #thecount never once tried to bite me.[4]

In a "Sesame Street Memory" video, Rodgers mentioned that he answered an audition, not knowing what it was for, and was hired on the spot after sight-reading "The People in Your Neighborhood." Rodgers performed a new version of the song in the 2019 primetime special, Sesame Street's 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Rodgers also founded the We Are Family Foundation in 2001. Muppets from Sesame Street, The Muppet Show and Bear in the Big Blue House were among the many children's characters who were featured in the "We Are Family" music video produced by the foundation.

Rodgers also shared a square with Kermit the Frog in a 2002 appearance on Hollywood Squares.
