The Oakland Holiday Parade was started in California in 2000, and drew over 100,000 people in 2007. Along with local stations, organizers claim it is shown on PBS affiliates "nationwide".

The December 6, 2008 parade featured Bob McGrath as grand marshal, on "his own Sesame Street float" sponsored by Comcast.[1] The float features Cookie Monster holding a candy cane, Elmo holding a candy cane as well, Lola from Plaza Sésamo holding an ornament, and Count von Count standing with his arms wide open.
