"Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be?" is a musical nursery rhyme dating back to the 1700s.
The song was sung by Telly Monster, Big Bird, and Elmo on the 1997 Sesame Street album, Kids' Favorite Songs.
The tune was later used in Episode 3901, where the street honors Big Bird's desire for an "Opera Day" and everyone sings instead of talks. Mr. Snuffleupagus doesn't have any ideas of what kind of song he can sing, a problem that Big Bird, Elmo, and the kids fix by turning his woes into a song (to the tune of this song).
