Old Joe is a large, multi-limbed spider who acts as a fence, dividing up Scrooge's belongings, in The Muppet Christmas Carol. He hits on his two female assistants, particulary the Laundress and Mrs. Dilber, while associating with the undertaker. He later appears in the background of "When Love Is Found", joining Scrooge, the Cratchits, and the rest of the town in enjoying Christmas dinner.
The puppet later cameos as a pirate in Muppet Treasure Island, performed by Jerry Nelson, and wears the same outfit in The Muppet CD-ROM: Muppets Inside, performed by Bill Barretta. He also appeared on Muppets Tonight as an audience member.
