Stage puppet versions of Oscar the Grouch have been created for the Sesame Street Live stage shows and the Sesame Place theme parks.
Before he made the transition to walk-around character in 2012, Oscar appeared as a puppet operated from inside a large prop trash can. Because he did not have a proper body, Oscar's appearances were mostly limited to Sesame Street Live and Sesame Place, although he has turned up at SeaWorld San Diego (pre-2012) and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

In Sesame Street Live, Oscar would usually enter the stage with his legs sticking out from the bottom of the can.
