1950s Ovaltine promotion for Captain Midnight
Ovaltine is a flavored drink mix, the best known flavor being chocolate, and in pop culture the term often refers to the resulting beverage (when added to milk) rather than the powder. Ovaltine sponsored old-time radio serials Little Orphan Annie and Captain Midnight and made use of mail promotions like decoder rings (as referenced in A Christmas Story).

- The script for Sesame Street Episode 1056 has Bert explaining the absence of his marching band by saying "they nipped off for a quick Ovaltine-on-the-rocks," but the line didn't make it into the final episode.
- Muppets Tonight episode 202 features the serial "Lash Holstein: Space Cowdet." In keeping with Ovaltine's radio roots, the bovine announcer says the sponsor is Moo-veltine, "the brown flavored drink you'll swear is almost chocolate-like."
