Paul Shaffer (b. 1949) is a musician, bandleader, and occasional actor, best known for his long-term stint as sidekick/bandleader on Late Night and The Late Show with David Letterman and his earlier work on Saturday Night Live. Shaffer guest starred on Shalom Sesame, in "Kids Sing Israel," appearing on a video monitor to request a Hebrew song.

As an active session New York musician in the 1970s, Shaffer played keyboards on the 1978 Sesame Street album Fair Is Fair. During this period, he also backed Barry Manilow and Burt Bacharach on albums.

Aside from his long term work on Saturday Night Live and Late Night, Shaffer was a music consultant for Gilda Radner's Broadway show Gilda Live, voiced Hermes in Disney's Hercules, appeared in Blues Brothers 2000, voiced Dr. Zarkov on the 1996 animated series Flash Gordon, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and was a celebrity contestant on Jeopardy!.
